Allen Bradley
Allen Bradley is a large player in the industrial automation scene. Siemens is their only real competitor in this regard. They have a wide variety of products in various model lines and their products is typically where the vast majority of PLC programmers first get a taste of PLC programming. Since they are so widespread there is good support and documentation for them. Their proprietary development software is predominantly RSLogix which includes 500 and 5000. RSLogix 5000 being very powerful with some very nice functions that should be included in all development environments if you ask me. It is pricey though...anywho, here are their current product lines:
- ControlLogix - Large Scale: "Our ControlLogix® control systems use a common control engine with a common development environment to provide high performance in an easy-to-use environment. Tight integration between the programming software, controller, and I/O modules reduces development time and cost at commissioning and during normal operation. You can perform standard and safety control in the same chassis for a truly integrated system. Leverage the high-availability and extreme environment capabilities to meet your application needs."
- GuardPLC - Large Scale: "Our GuardPLC™ Safety Control Systems offer superior speed in PLC throughput and network functionality. These controllers meet worldwide PLC standards and global standards for functional safety. This family is ideal for sensing speed, direction, zero-speed, temperature, pressure and flow applications. These controllers communicate on a Safe Ethernet communications network that is TÜV-certified for use in safety applications up to EN954 Category 4 and SIL 3."
- SoftLogix - Large Scale: "Our Bulletin 1789 SoftLogix™ Control Systems are based on the Logix platform and seamlessly integrate machine control, motion control, and information processing. They take the control functions normally found in dedicated programmable controllers, encapsulate those functions in software and run them on a commercial operating system. The multi-tasking operating system allows you to prioritize 32 configurable tasks."
- CompactLogix - Small Scale: "Our CompactLogix™ and Compact GuardLogix® controllers use a common control engine with a common development environment to provide mid-range application control in an easy-to-use environment. Tight integration between the programming software, controller and I/O modules reduces development time and cost at commissioning and during normal operation. This commonality provides cost-effective integration of a machine or safety application into a plant-wide control system because it integrates safety, motion, discrete and drive capabilities in a single controller."
- SmartGuard 600 - Small Scale: "Our Bulletin 1752 SmartGuard™ 600 Controllers with Safety feature 16 safety-rated inputs, 8 safety-rated outputs, 4 pulse test sources and an optional EtherNet/IP™ port. Each controller also includes a DeviceNet™ connection to support both standard CIP and CIP safety. You can configure and program on EtherNet/IP, on DeviceNet or through the built-in USB port. These small, cost-effective intelligent controllers can perform safety interlocking between GuardLogix® or other SmartGuard safety controllers."
- SLC 500 - Small Scale: "Our Bulletin 1747 SLC™ 500 control platform is used for a wide variety of applications. Rockwell Automation has announced that some SLC 500 Bulletin numbers are discontinued and no longer available for sale. Customers are encouraged to migrate to our newer CompactLogix™ 5370 or 5380 control platforms."
- Micro800 - Micro/Nano: "Our Micro800® Control Systems are easy to install and maintain. One software package applies to the entire family. These systems offer just enough control for your lower-cost, stand-alone machines. You can buy only the functionality you need, and use plug-in modules to personalize your system for specific application needs."
- MicroLogix - Micro/Nano: "For a proven, small programmable logic controller solution, look to our MicroLogix™ family. The MicroLogix 1200 controllers provides features and options to handle extensive range of applications. The MicroLogix 1100 and 1400 controllers increase the application coverage with enhanced network communications at an affordable price."
They don't have a handy dandy chart to help you pick products but do have a selection tool that will have to sort through yourself and do some research on but I provide the link here.
